Privacy Policy

Phoneme is a pronunciation reference and drill tool for EFL and ESL teachers. The IPA Reference works entirely offline and requires no account.

What We Collect

If you sign in (optional): Supabase stores your email address, authentication provider, user ID, paid status, and account timestamps. Sign-in is only offered to sync your Train Unlock across devices — the Reference tab works without it.

Purchases (iOS): iOS in-app purchases are processed by Apple. RevenueCat handles entitlement management and stores a RevenueCat user ID, App Store transaction ID, and purchase status. Phoneme does not receive or store payment card information.

Purchases (web): Web purchases are processed by Stripe, which stores payment information and provides Phoneme with purchase status and customer IDs. Phoneme does not store card numbers.

Product analytics: We use PostHog to understand how the app is used — events include phoneme chart views, drill starts, paywall views, and purchase completions. Analytics events are anonymous; they are not linked to your identity unless you are signed in.

Device storage: The app may store practice streaks, session history, Train unlock state, and UI preferences in local storage or device storage. This data stays on your device.

How We Use Data

We use collected data to: provide sign-in and cross-device sync, restore paid access, process purchases, improve the product, debug issues, and answer support requests. We do not sell personal data. We do not use your data for advertising or share it with data brokers.

Tracking

We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA), ad networks, or cross-app tracking. PostHog analytics is first-party and anonymous — no data is shared with data brokers or used for advertising. No App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown.

Account Deletion

To delete your Phoneme account and associated data, email [email protected] from the email address used for your account and write "Delete my account." Your Supabase auth record, profile data, and stored preferences will be removed. Apple and RevenueCat retain iOS transaction records per their own data retention policies.

You can clear device-local practice history at any time by clearing site data for phoneme.app in your browser, or by uninstalling the iOS app.

Data Export

Email [email protected] to request a copy of the data associated with your account.

Children

Phoneme is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Sign-in and purchase features require users to be of appropriate age per Apple's and Stripe's terms of service.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above. Continued use of Phoneme after changes constitutes acceptance.
